School officials meeting with Schenley students
By The Tribune-Review
Tuesday, November 6, 2007
Administrators from Pittsburgh Public Schools will meet with students of Schenley High School at 6 p.m. Thursday to discuss their concerns about the proposed closing of the school.
District officials recommended closing the school because of safety issues, financial reasons and student achievement. Superintendent Mark Roosevelt said it would cost more than $64 million to abate the asbestos and fix the building's mechanical systems.
Roosevelt said students in the school's mainstream program were not achieving as well as students in its other programs.
The meeting will take place in the school auditorium at 4101 Bigelow Blvd. in Oakland.
