I couldn't attend Saturday's meeting at Pitt, but I want to know what alumni can do to help. Is there somewhere on this site where that info is going to be placed? Thanks!
Also, I think that everyone agrees about the arguments for Schenley's location and diverse student body - we all feel strongly about this. But I don't think that alone will convinve the board to keep Schenley open. I think we need to think of alternative plans and options to find funding, in addition to these important items that make Schenley unique.
I know it's not ideal, but what are your thoughts on having Schenley students pay a dollar a day? If they pay a dollar for the ten months they are in school, that's $330,000 a year. (I'm well aware many may not be able to afford this, and it could be covered by alumni scholarships - sponsor a Schenley student). Even this small amount would not nearly be enough to cover the questionable bill of $64 million. But, if we make a concerted effort like this, and show how much we are committed, then I feel it will be much easier to get funds from elsewhere, in the form of matching grants.
I appreciate any thoughts on this idea.

Every idea is welcome, every testimony is needed .
This is not what the students wanted and it is another quick, not well thought out decision. We have to some way convince the superintendent that this is not his fault and it is the result of other superintendents' passing over the building and letting it be in the condition that it is in. We have to convince him and the board that they are the one's who can and will save this majestic building with the help of the passionate shareholders whose dedication can be harnessed at this point in time. We have to make it be that Mark Roosevelt and this board chose to save the flagship building of the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Without his support, we can not even begin to raise funds. This was made plain 2 years ago.

One thing that all alumni could help us with is spreading the word that they are once again threatening to close Schenley. Contact any old friends that you have that might not be in the area and let them know that we need their support. Write letters to the local Pittsburgh newspapers and to school board members giving them reasons to keep the school in Oakland and not divided. Sign the online petition which is currently being updated. Keep watching this site for future rallies or activities.

The grassroots efforts by Schenley PARENTS and ALUMNI to canvas Pgh registered VOTERS to sign their Petitions in specifically TARGETED Board Member's districts is being expanded for Saturday 24 November, when many Schenley Alumni, currently away at college, will be returning for their Thanksgiving College break.

Many College students have already volunteered to spend a few hours Saturday canvasing the specific homes listed in the Voter Records obtained by Schenley PARENTS and ALUMNI, who currently are the backbone of political organization and activation in Pgh.

Once these Schenley PARENTS and ALUMNI advise us of their gathering places and times for Saturday 24 November, we will post all the information here.

A third group of Parents throuhout the city, who have no connection to Schenley, are so angered and outraged, they are organizing their own voter registration drives, within the districts of the 6 PPS Board Members who voted Wednesday to iniate the closing of Schenley High School. This group is targeting action during both next year's Primary and General Election.
